Media Literacy




MEDIA LITERACY CONCEPT


Media literacy is a set of skills that anyone can learn. Just as literacy is the ability to read and write, media literacy refers to the ability to access, analyze, evaluate and create media messages of all kinds.


Kinds Of Media Literacy concept :

     1.     Individuals construct their own meanings from media 
           
      So, we conclude that not everyone has an opinion and understanding we give an opinion same, sometimes A but other give opinions B, but we should not blame a  different opinion, the media is often designed as attractive as possible so that the audience is interested to try.










     















Example: Cigarette ads sample despite already warns of dangers of smoking but most people don’t care and keep smoking




     2.     We process time-based media differently than static media

      So, every person interprets media with different views depending on what media they use to refer to when watching (tv, movies, video game, etc) our minds as if directed to follow a scene by scene in the display, that's why it can trigger emotions (in audiovisual) and when we read a newspaper, magazine, book or website, we have the opportunity to stop and think, why? Because when we reading (newspaper, magazine, book, website, etc) we can imagine and think, so we can think to understand what should be understood, like read a newspaper, education. And we can imagine what happened in the book like novel or storybook




3. Media literate youth and adults are media activists

    So, we as young people have to make the media information for the better although there are limitations, so we have to learn from these limitations. So that generation can easily create media better. The reason for media here is increased media quality, flexibility, ease to understand, and simplicity.




Example: Media Education and Social Media, but in Social Media has a negative effect like cybercrime





Intermediate Persuasion Techniques

The technique is used in a variety of advertising. Example :

1. Repetition
    
    So, based on the technique above they repeat the ads, sound, and image that we are accustomed to and eventually are interested and curious by the ads. This ads technique is good because the audience can easily remember this ad. So repeat this ad can make the consumers know this product, but repeat ads can make a negative effect like make people bored from this ads, and our suggestion if you make the ads, the ads must have funny and interesting impression because the power of ads contained in the appeal to steal the audience's attention.






Example: Kukis Butter ads




2. Euphemism
    
    Euphemism is smooth language and polite language. In this technique the ads must use smooth language and polite words, not use an impolite word to purpose looks better and ethical, and this ads technique usually be used for ads type involving feelings. Because use polite words can make people believe this product is good.




3. Ad Hominem

    Explanation of the technique is to reassure other people for choose this product with comparing the quality product with other product. The message must also be wrong, that's mean if the messenger wrong in conveying a message, we can attack the messenger by using impolite words.








4. Diversion

    This technique in the form of a diversion, in the meaning of technique only show just good parts, and the other way does not tell a bad thing or unfavorable, so the audience assumes that the product is good without knowing the badness.
Example: Such as product electronic (like handphone, television, air conditioner, etc.)
